What is remote authentication

What is remote authentication and how does it make things easier in these times of restrictions.

In connection with the amendment of acts, the Estonian Chamber of Notaries has developed a new service platform. Among other things, also a possibility of remote authentication was launched. Remote authentication is now possible for all notarial acts, for example real estate transactions, submit applications for marriage, divorce and on succession matters. These transactions can be made via video bridge, without having to physically visit the notary’s office.
By remote authentication it is not possible to certify marriage and divorce and make marriage and divorce entries.
Thanks to the new platform, dealing with notaries has been generally simplified. Exchange of information and documents and digital signing is more convenient.
Initially, the new solution was to be launched gradually, in five foreign representations of Estonia – Helsinki, Stockholm, Riga, London and Brussels. However, due to the emergency situation in Estonia and throughout the world, the Ministry of Justice decided to speed up the implementation of remote authentication.

Remote authentication is possible with an Estonian identification card, whether that is a resident’s ID card, mobile-ID or e-resident’s card.
